How Teachers Are Selected
The bar every teacher must clear
Specialists are not taken on because they are available. Every teacher passes the same four stages before they meet a live class.
Application review
Read personally by the academic team. Most applications do not proceed past this stage.
Subject mastery assessment
A demanding assessment in the subject, at the level they would teach.
Observed demonstration lesson
A live, taught lesson observed by the Institute — actual teaching, not a presentation about teaching.
Institute training
Learning-science approach, our systems, safeguarding standards and the small-class model — before any live class.
Required of every teacher

- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/PGCE or equivalent)

Safeguards around every class
- Enhanced DBS-checked teachers only
- Every lesson recorded and retained
- Parent portal visibility of all activity
